MLS: Timbers, Crew, Dynamo, Sounders, Galaxy Pick Up Wins

Seven Major League Soccer matches were contested on Saturday.


At Columbus, Ohio:


Andres Mendoza converted his penalty kick at 49 minutes for the game-winning goal as the Columbus Crew tightened their hold on top spot in the Eastern Conference with their 2-1 home win over the Philadelphia Union.


At Foxborough, Massachusetts:


The New York Red Bulls, with Dane Richards scoring twice in the second half (53', 87'), erased a two-goal deficit and gained a 2-2 road draw with the New England Revolution.  Milton Caraglio scored both of the Revs' goals (15', 38').


At Houston:


Second-half goals from Brian Ching (46'), Bobby Boswell (68'), and Alex Dixon (90') enabled the Houston Dynamo to come from behind to top visiting Real Salt Lake 3-2.


At Commerce City, Colorado:


Juan Pablo Angel, newly acquired from the Los Angeles Galaxy (36'), and Laurent Coutois (86') each scored a goal as Chivas USA gained a 2-2 road draw with the Colorado Rapids.  Caleb Folan (13') and Jeff Larentowics (69') each tallied once for the Rapids.


At Frisco, Texas:


Mauro Rosales scored the only goal of the match in the 16th minute as the Seattle Sounders knocked off FC Dallas 1-0 on the road.


At Carson, California:


Robbie Keane, in his MLS debut, scored in the 21st minute (converting a David Beckham pass), and Mike Magee added an insurance goal at 90 minutes as the Los Angeles Galaxy blanked the visiting San Jose Earthquakes 2-0.


At Portland, Oregon:


Diego Chara (2') and Jorge Perlaza (32') provided the first-half scoring as the Portland Timbers held off the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 in a battle of the expansion clubs.
