UEFA Champions League Playoff Round: Wisla Krakow, Dinamo Zagreb, Bayern, OB, Maccabi Haifa Take Series Openers

The opening week of the playoff round for UEFA Champions League group-stage berths concluded with five games on Wednesday.


Champions Path:


At Krakow, Poland:


Patryk Malecki scored the only goal of the match at 71 minutes as Wisla Krakow defeated visiting APOEL 1-0 in game one of their two-match series.


At Ramat Gan, Israel:


With goals from Wiyam Amashe (8') and Vladimir Dvalishvili (28'), Maccabi Haifa took the opening game of their series with KRC Genk 2-1.  The visiting Belgian club stayed in the series, though, as Elyaniv Barda scored what might still be a precious away goal in the 61st minute.


At Zagreb, Croatia:


Sammir scored twice (4', PK-60') as Dinamo Zagreb dominated second-half play and took care of visiting Malmo FF 4-1 in their series opener as the Croatian champions are 90 minutes away from their first group-stage appearance in 12 years.


Non-Champions Path:


At Odense, Denmark:


Hans Henrik Andreasen scored the only goal of the match at 84 minutes as Odense Bollklub blanked visiting Villarreal 1-0 in match one.


At Munich, Germany:


Bastian Schweinsteiger (8') and Arjen Robben (72') provided the goal power as Bayern Munich dominated action and blanked visiting FC Zurich 2-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.
