UEFA Champions League Qualifying: Road Draw For Lyon Good Enough For Berth In Group Stage

The playoff round for group-stage berths in the UEFA Champions League concluded with five games on Wednesday.

At Kazan, Russia:

Bakary Kone scored in the 87th minute as Lyon gained a 1-1 road draw in game two of their series with FC Rubin Kazan, sealing the Franch club's seemingly regular spor in the group stage as they won the series 4-2 on aggregate.

At Prague, Czech Republic:


Goals from Marek Bakos (67') and Michal Duris (90'+3) carried FC Viktoria Plzen to a 2-1 come-from-behind game-two home win over FC Copenhagen, enabling them to win the series 5-2 on aggregate.

At Graz, Austria:


Aleksandr Volodko (36') and Marko Simic (70') provided the scoring that carried FC BATE Borisov to a 2-0 road win in game two over SK Sturm Gras and a 3-1 aggregate win to advance to the Champions League's group stage for the second time in club history.

At Lisbon, Portugal:


Axel Witsel scored his first two goals for his new team (46', 66') as SL Benfica defeated visiting FC Twente 3-1 in game two and won their two-match series 5-3 on aggregate.

At Udine, Italy:


Robin Van Persie (55') and Theo Walcott (69') provided the tallies as Arsenal defeated Udinese 2-1 on the road in game two and won their two-game series 3-1 on aggregate.

The five clubs eliminated on Wednesday will play in the group stage of the Europa League.
