Thanks to the fact that they scored a higher number of goals on the road in their two group-stage meetings with Paris Saint-Germain, the Red Bulls advanced to the knockout stage.
At Paris:
Javier Pastore (21'), Mathieu Bodmer (41'), Inigo Perez (OG-85'), andGuillaume Hoarau (PK-90') each delivered a goal as Paris Saint-Germain doubled-up visiting Athletic Bilbao 4-2, but still, due to scoring fewer road goals in their two meetings with Red Bull Salzburg, were still eliminated from European competition.
