UEFA Champions League Group A: Citizens Ousted Despite Win Over Bayern; Napoli Top Yellow Submarine To Advance

Group-stage play in the UEFA Champions League concluded with eight games played on Wednesday, two of them in Group A.


At Villarreal, Spain:





Gokham Inter (65') and Marek Hamsik (76') each scored a second-half goal as Napoli advanced to the knockout stage with their 2-0 road win over Villarreal.  The Azzurri are shown here celebrating


At Manchester, England:





David Silva (36') and Yaya Toure (52', pictured here) provided the scoring as Manchester City blanked visiting Round-of-16-bound Bayern Munich 2-0.  Despite the win, the Citizens, due to Napoli's road win over Villarreal, will have to settle for Europa League knockout-stage play.

Bayern Munich and Napoli advanced to the Champions League's knockout stage while Manchester City will take part in Europa League Round of 32 action.  Villarreal's European campaign has ended.
