UEFA Champions League Group F: Marseille To Join Gunners In Knockout Stage

Action from Group F of the UEFA Champions League concluded with two Tuesday contests.

Group F:




At Piraeus, Greece:


David Fuster (C) takes the plaudits after putting Olympiakos 2-0 ahead against Arsenal


Rafik Djebbour (16'), David Fuster (36', that's him [center] celebrating with teammates), and Francois Modesto (89') each scored a goal as Olympiacos defeated Group F-winning Arsenal 3-1.  However, due to the comeback road win by Marseille, the Greek club were eliminated from the tournament, though they will be playing in the knockout stage of the Europa League.

At Dortmund, Germany:


Marseille produced a stunning comeback against Dortmund to reach the knockout rounds


Loic Remy (45'+4),  Andre Ayew (85'), and Mathieu Valbuena (87') each tallied once as Marseille, in defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 on the road---after having trailed 2-0, locked up a Champions League knockout-stage berth.  Happy members of the visiting French club celebrate their dramatic comeback victory.

1. Arsenal (GP: 6; GD: +1; PTS: 11)
2. Marseille (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 10)
3. Olympiacos (GP: 6; GD: +2; PTS: 9)
4. Borussia Dortmund (GP: 6; GD: -6; PTS: 4)


Arsenal and Marseille advanced to the knockout stage of the Champions League, while Olympiacos qualified for the Europa League's Round of 32.  Borussia Dortmund were eliminated from European competition.
