CAF Champions League: Scoreless Home Draw Good Enough For Orlando Pirates As South African Club Reaches Semifinals

Two games were played on Sunday----both in Group A----as action from the group stage of the CAF Champions League came to a close.

At El Gouna, Egypt:

Ahmed Gaafar scored twice (57', 65') scored twice as Zamalek, already eliminated from the tournament, dominated visiting AC Leopards 4-1.

At Johannesburg, South Africa:

A 0-0 home draw with Al-Ahly enabled Orlando Pirates to advance to the semifinal round.

FINAL GROUP A STANDINGS:

1. Al-Ahly (GP: 6; GD: +1; PTS: 11)
2. Orlando Pirates (GP: 6; GD: +4; PTS: 8)
3. Zamalek (GP: 6; GD: -2; PTS: 7)
4. AC Leopards (GP: 6; GD: -3; PTS: 7)

Al-Ahly and Orlando Pirates advanced to the semifinal round.

The opening game of each of the two series will take place during the weekend of October 4-6, with Coton Sport hosting Al-Ahly and Orlando Pirates entertaining Esperance de Tunis.  The return matches will take place two weeks later.

The two winners would advance to the two-game final with the opening game set for November 1-3 and the return match set for November 8-10.  The winner would play in this December's FIFA Club World Cup, set for Morocco.
