The quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup concluded with two games played on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New York.
In the opener, after a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes, Valentin Pimentel converted the winning spot kick in the ninth round of the penalty-kick shootout, in which Panama defeated Trinidad and Tobago 6-5.
In the nightcap, Andres Gardado converted a controversially-awarded overtime penalty kick (120'+4) as Mexico defeated Costa Rica 1-0.
Panama will take on Mexico in a semifinal match on Wednesday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta at 6:00 PM Pacific Time.
