The first two CONCACAF Gold Cup contests to take place on Canadian soil were played on Tuesday as Group B play concluded. Both games were played at BMO Field in Toronto.
In the opener, Garath McCleary scored the only goal of the match in the 71st minute as Jamaica wrapped up the top spot in Group B with their 1-0 win over El Salvador. Despite the defeat, the Salvadorians can still advance to the quarterfinal round as one of the two best third-placed teams.
In the nightcap, Canada and Costa Rica battled to a 0-0 stalemate, which enabled the Ticos to finish second in Group B and qualify for the quarterfinal round. The Canadians, who tallied nary a goal in three games, were eliminated from the tournament.
Final Group B Standings:
1. Jamaica (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 7)
2. Costa Rica (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 3)
3. El Salvador (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 2)
4. Canada (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 2)
Jamaica and Costa Rica advanced to the quarterfinal round, while El Salvador can still advance as one of the two best third-placed teams.
