MLS: DCU, Red Bulls (Who Clinch Top Spot In East), Timbers Rack Sunday Wins; Sounders Gain 1-1 Draw With Dynamo (Houston Eliminated From Playoff Contention)

Four games were played in Major League Soccer on Sunday.

At Washington:

Chris Pontius (39'), Bobby Boswell (67'), Fabian Espindola (71'), and Alvaro Saborio (80') each scored a goal as DC United doused the visiting Chicago Fire 4-0.

At Harrison, New Jersey:

Mike Grella (1', 4'), Bradley Wright-Phillips (4') and Kemar Lawrence (44') delivered the scoring during a four-goal blitzkrieg as the New York Red Bulls dominated the visiting Philadelphia Union 4-1 to clinch the Eastern Conference regular-season title and a berth in the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League. The Red Bulls kept pace with FC Dallas in the race for the Supporters' Shield.

At Houston:

Obafemi Martin's equalizer in the 82nd minute lifted the Seattle Sounders to a 1-1 road draw with the Houston Dynamo as the visitors edged closer to clinching their seventh successive playoff appearance.  Ricardo Clark scored in the 65th minute for the hosts, who were eliminated from playoff contention.

At Carson, California:

Fanendo Adi scored twice during a three-minute span in the second half (65', PK-68') while Diego Chara (74'), Darlington Nagbe (85'), and Maximiliano Urruti (90') each added a goal as the Portland Timbers scored five goals in the second half en route to a 5-2 road win over the Los Angeles Galaxy, their first-ever road win over the defending MLS Cup champs.  The Timbers climbed to fourth place in the Western Conference standings---putting them on the cusp of the playoffs---with the triumph.
