MLS: Reds (Who Clinch First-Ever Playoff Berth), Hoops, Timbers Grab Wednesday Wins

Three games were contested in Major League Soccer on Wednesday.

At Toronto:

Sebastian Giovinco scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 78th minute as Toronto FC held off the visiting New York Red Bulls 2-1 to clinch the first MLS Cup playoff berth in the club's nine-year history.

At Frisco, Texas:

Michael Barrios (32') and Mauro Diaz (52') each scored a goal as FC Dallas gained sole possession of the Western Conference's top spot after blanking the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0.

At Sandy, Utah:

Fanendo Adi's successfully-converted 54th-minute penalty kick provided all the scoring as the Portland Timbers knocked off ten-man Real Salt Lake 1-0 on the road to maintain control of their playoff destiny while all but ending the hosts' string of playoff appearances at seven.
