UEFA Champions League: Citizens, Gladbach In Very Good Shape To Reach Group Stage; Lions Take Series Opener In Denmark

Five games were played on Tuesday as the UEFA Champions League's playoff round commenced.

At Copenhagen, Denmark:

Andrija Pavlovic scored the only goal of the match in the 43rd minute as FC Copenhagen defeated visiting APOEL FC 1-0 in game one of their two-match series with a berth in the Champions League's group stage at stake.

At Zagreb, Croatia:

Marko Rog's successfully-converted penalty kick in the 76th minute enabled Dinamo Zagreb to salvage a series-opening 1-1 home draw with FC Red Bull Salzburg.  Valentino Lazaro scored for the Austrian club in the 59th minute.

At Bucharest, Romania:

Sergio Aguero produced a hat trick (41', 78', 89') as Manchester City all but locked up a berth in the group stage following their 5-0 series-opening road demolition of Steaua Bucharest.

At Amsterdam, Netherlands:

Christian Noboa's goal in the 13th minute carried FC Rostov to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with Ajax Amsterdam.  Davy Klaassen successfully converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute helped salvage the draw for the hosts.

At Bern, Switzerland:

Rafael Caetano scored twice (11', 69') placed Borussia Monchengladbach in good shape to reach the Champions League's group stage following their series-opening 3-1 road triumph over BSC Young Boys.
