CONCACAF Champions League: Olimpia, Tigres Advance To Semifinals

 After a nine-month break, the quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League resumed on Tuesday with two games, both at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida.


Game #1:


Despite dropping a 1-0 game-two "home" decision to the Montreal Impact, Honduras' CD Olimpia, with the aggregate score at 2-2, advanced on away goals.


Game #2:


Andre-Pierre Gignac (30'), Leonardo Fernandez (49'), Rafael Carioca (64'), and Javier Aquino (85') each scored once as designated hosts Tigres demolished New York City 4-0 in game two of their series, won by the Mexican club 5-0 on aggregate.

Karim Benzema scored twice (9', 32') as Real Madrid blanked visiting Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 to jump their guests and Shakhtar Donetsk and claimed top spot in the group and a berth in the Champions League's knockout stage.


Despite their defeat, Gladbach will be playing in the round of 16 as well. 


At Milan, Italy:


Inter Milan and visiting Shakhtar Donetsk battled to a 0-0 stalemate, which cost the Ukrainian club a berth in the Champions League's knockout stage, shuttling them into the knockout stage of the Europa League.


The draw ended the Nerazzurri's European campaign.

 Two games were played on Tuesday as Group H action in the UEFA Champions League concluded.


At Paris:


The match between Paris Saint-Germain and visiting Istanbul Basaksehir was suspended after 14 minutes with no score after players on both squads left the pitch in protest over an incident involving a match official and the assistant manager of the Turkish club; the match was resumed on Wednesday.


At Leipzig, Germany:


Justin Kluivert scored the winning goal as RB Liepzig knocked off visiting Manchester United 3-2 to lay claim to a berth in the Champions League's knockout stage.
