MLS Cup Playoffs: Lions Take Playoff Debut In PK Thriller; Crew Complete Hapless Saturday For Big Apple Clubs

 The MLS Cup Playoffs continued on Saturday with two Eastern Conference quarterfinal contests.


At Orlando, Florida:


After a 1-1 regulation draw that was followed by 30 scoreless overtime minutes, Tesho Akindele, Andres Perea, Antonio Carlos, Junior Urso, Robin Jansson, and Benji Michel converted their spot kicks as Orlando City won their first-ever playoff game by outlasting visiting New York City 6-5 in the penalty-kick shootout.


At Columbus, Ohio:


Pedro Santos (PK-26'), Darlington Nagbe (46'), and Gyasi Zardes (68') each scored once as the Columbus Crew held off the visiting New York Red Bulls 3-2.
