CONCACAF Champions League: Rough Night For MLS Clubs; Cruz Azul Crush Visitors From Belize

The preliminary round for berths in the group stage in the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League commenced Tuesday:

At Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago:

Goals from Gregory Richardson (51') and Jamal Gay (70') powered Joe Public FC to a 2-1 home win in game one of their two-match series with the New England Revolution. Mauricio Castro provided the Revs' lone goal with his successful penalty kick.

At Panama City, Panama:

Edwin Aguilar provided both goals (5', 65') as Tauro FC blanked visiting Chivas USA in game one of their two-match set.

At Mexico City:

By scoring three goals in each half, Cruz Azul put on a dominating performance in the opening contest of their two-match set as they handed visiting Hankook Verdes (Belize) a 6-0 brassknuckling. Edgar Andrade doubled (19', 72') and Javier Orozco tripled (39', 67', 87') for La Maquina Celeste.
