MLS: Quakes, Sounders Clinch Playoff Berths

Five games were played on Saturday in Major League Soccer.

At Harrison, New Jersey:

The New York Red Bulls maintained their hold on first place in the Eastern Conference after their 0-0 home stalemate with Real Salt Lake in a battle of playoff-bound teams.

At Frisco, Texas:

Milton Rodriguez (26') and David Ferreira (36') each scored a goal as FC Dallas stretched their unbeaten streak to 19, an MLS record for the longest such streak in a single season as they settled for a 2-2 home deadlock with the Colorado Rapids.  Both of Colorado's goals were scored by Jeff Larentowicz (12', 50').

At Washington:

Chris Wondolowski scored both goals (45', 55') as the San Jose Earthquakes, coupled with Seattle's 2-1 win over Kansas City, clinched their first playoff berth since their rebirth in 2008 with a 2-0 road win over DC United, who suffered their club-record 19th defeat.

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Sanna Nyassi (65') and Alvaro Fernandez (78') each delivered a goal as the Seattle Sounders clinched their second playoff berth in as many seasons in their existence with their 2-1 road win over the Kansas City Wizards.

At Carson, California:

Chivas USA, with goals courtesy of Jorge Flores (51'), Jesus Padilla (88'), and Rodolfo Espinoza (90') and three saves from Zach Thornton for his sixth shutout of the season, defeated visiting Toronto FC 1-0.
