CONCACAF Champions League

CONCACAF Champions League group-stage play continued on Wednesday with three games.

GROUP A:

At Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago:

Alvin Jones scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute as W Connection knocked off visiting Deportivo Saprissa 2-1 to keep their flickering hopes of advancing to the quarterfinal round alive.  Barely.

Group A Standings:

1. Deportivo Saprissa (GP: 3; GD: +4; PTS: 6)
2. Santos Laguna (GP: 2; GD: +3; PTS: 3)
3. W Connection (GP: 3; GD: -7; PTS: 3)



GROUP E:

At Managua, Nicaragua:

Carlos Quintero scored twice (13', 42') as Club America defeated Walter Ferretti 3-1 on the road as the Mexican club now needs only one more point to lock up Group E and a berth in the quarterfinal round.

Group E Standings:

1.    Club America (GP: 3; GD: +7; PTS: 9)
2.    Club Deportivo Motagua (GP: 2; GD: -2; PTS: 3)
3. z-Deportivo Walter Ferretti (GP: 3; GD: -5; PTS: 0)

z-Eliminated from tournament



GROUP F:

At Vancouver, British Columbia:

Kianz Froese scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute as the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated visiting CD Olimpia 1-0.

Group F Standings:

1. Seattle Sounders (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 4)
2. Vancouver Whitecaps (GP: 2; GD: +1; PTS: 4)
3. CD Olimpia (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 3)

NOTE:  The Seattle Sounders have scored one away goal in their first contest against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
