MLS Cup Playoffs: Reds Knock Off Red Bulls In Jersey In East Semifinal Opener; Injury-Ravaged Timbers Gain Series-Opening Scoreless Draw In Houston

The MLS Cup Playoffs continued on Monday with two games.  

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Harrison, New Jersey:

Sebastian Giovinco scored the winning goal in the 72nd minute as Toronto FC knocked off the New York Red Bulls 2-1 on the road in the opening match of their conference semifinal series.



WESTERN CONFERENCE:

At Houston:

Despite losing key players (Larrys Mabiala, Diego Chara, and Darlington Nagbe) to injury, the Portland Timbers still gained a conference semifinal series-opening 0-0 road stalemate with the Houston Dynamo.
