In each group, each team would play each of the other teams twice, once at home, once on the road. The top two teams in each group would advance to the knockout stage, beginning with the round of 16.

The third-place clubs in each group would move on to the round of 32 in the Europa League.

Group stage play will begin on September 15 and 16.
