The Major League Soccer playoffs continued on Saturday with two games.
At Columbus, Ohio:
After the Columbus Crew took game two of their Eastern Conference semifinal series 2-1 on Saturday, squaring the two-game series at 2-2 on aggregate, to force what proved to be thirty scoreless overtime minutes, Conor Casey, Macoumba Kandji, Jeff Larentowicz, Claudio Lopez, and Jamie Smith all converted their penalty kicks in the shootout, while Bryan Carroll's kick sailed over the crossbar, as the Colorado Rapids took the shootout 5-4 and advanced to the single-game Eastern Conference final against the San Jose Earthquakes, which will be played next Saturday at Commerce City, Colorado. The Crew's defeat, coupled with San Jose's earlier elimination of New York, means that there are no actual Eastern Conference clubs left in the Major League Soccer playoffs.
At Sandy, Utah:
Dax McCarty's goal at 17 minutes proved to be enough as FC Dallas gained a 1-1 road draw in game two of their Western Conference semifinal series to win the two-game set with defending champions Real Salt Lake 3-2 on aggregate. The Hoops will play the winner of the Los Angeles Galaxy-Seattle Sounders series in next weekend's Western Conference final.
