2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying: Bahamas Blow Out T&C Islands In Series Opener

At Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands:

Nesley Jean scored twice (32', 60') on Saturday as the Bahamas routed Turks and Caicos Islands 4-0 on the road in the opening match in a two-game series in the opening round of CONCACAF regional qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The opening qualifying round actually started back on June 15 as Belize, thanks to Deon McCaulay's hat trick (24', 75', 83'), dominated Montserrat 5-2 on the road in the opening game of their two-match series.  Since Montserrat had no facilities on the island that met international standards, they elected to play their "home" contest at Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.  The return match was to have been played four days later in Belmopan, Belize, but the match was postponed as the FIFA Emergency Committee suspended the Central American country's soccer federation due to severe government interference.  That match must be rescheduled no later than one week from Sunday.  If the situation is not returned to normal by then, Belize would be excluded from the qualifying competition and Montserrat would advance by default.
