CONCACAF Champions League: Hoops, Sounders Advance To Group Stage

Five games were played on Wednesday as the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Champions League continued.


At Bayamon, Puerto Rico:


Despite dropping a 3-1 decision to the Puerto Rico Islanders on the road in game two, Isidro Metapan, with the score on aggregate at 3-3, advanced to the group stage on away goals.  Lester Blanco scored the series-winning goal for the Salvadorian club at 60 minutes.


At Frisco, Texas:


Ugo Ihemelu scored the lone goal of the match at 37 minutes as FC Dallas racked up a second successive 1-0 win over Alianza FC, this time at home, and won their two-game series with the Salvadorian club 2-0 on aggregate.


At Morelia, Mexico:


Angel Sepulveda (31') and Miguel Sansores (78') provided the scoring as Morelia defeated Tempete FC in game two and won their two-match series 7-0 on aggregate.  This was designated as a home game for the Haitian club as renovation at their home stadium in Port-au-Prince remained incomplete.


At Seattle:


Alvaro Fernandez scored at 41 minutes as the Seattle Sounders led visiting San Francisco FC 1-0 at the end of regulation time of game two of their two-match series, deadlocking the series at 1-1 on aggregate.  In overtime, Nick Jaqua scored the series-winning goal at 98 minutes as the Sounders finally finished off their Panamanian opponents 2-1 on aggregate.


At Tegucigalpa, Honduras:


Despite dropping a 3-1 decision to Club Deportivo Olimpia on the road in game two, Santos Laguna still advanced to the group stage, winning their two-game set 4-3 on aggregate.  Cristian Suarez scored the series-winning goal at 13 minutes for the Mexican club.
