In Thursday's opening contest of the CONCACAF League, Jimmy Marin (23') and Allan Cruz (62') each scored once as CS Herediano blanked visiting Motagua 2-0.
The series will conclude next Thursday at Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The winner would qualify for next year's CONCACAF Champions League.
