Volcan Club and visiting African Stars (Namibia) battled to a series-opening 0-0 stalemate.
At Djibouti City, Djibouti:
Mamadou Sidibe scored twice (7', 74') as Jimma Aba Jifar of Ethiopia defeated ASAS Djibouti Telecom 3-1 in their series opener on the road.
At Constantine, Algeria:
The opening match between CS Constantine and visiting GAMTEL (The Gambia) resulted in a 0-0 deadlock.
At Bangui, Central African Republic:
Oumar Traore scored the only goal of Stade Malien's series-opening 1-0 road win over Stade Centrafricaine in the 52nd minute.
At Lobatse, Botswana:
Litsepe Marabe's equalizer in the 60th minute lifted Bantu of Lesotho to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with Township Rollers.
Thatayaone Ditlhokwe scored for the Botswanan club in the 58th minute.
At Omdurman, Sudan:
Geovane Maranhao got the scoring started in the 17th minute as Al-Hilal demolished visiting JKU (Zanzibar) 4-0 in their series opener.
At Cairo, Egypt (due to security concerns in Libya):
