UEFA Nations League: Portugal Advance To Finals; Turkey, Lithuania Relegated

UEFA Nations League group-stage play continued on Saturday with seven games.

LEAGUE A:

Group Three:

At Milan, Italy:

A 0-0 road draw with Italy enabled Portugal to qualify for next June's Nations League Finals.

Group Three Standings:

1. x-Portugal (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 7)
2.    Italy (GP: 4; GD: 0; PTS: 5)
3. z-Germany (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 1)

LEAGUE B:

Group Two:

At Konya, Turkey:

Andreas Grandvist converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute for the only goal of the match as Sweden defeated Turkey 1-0 on the road, condemning the hosts to relegation to League C for the 2020-21 tournament.

League Two Standings:

1.    Russia (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 7)
2.    Sweden (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 4)
3. z-Turkey (GP: 4; GD: -3; PTS: 3)

LEAGUE C:

Group One:

At Shkoder, Albania:

James Forrest scored twice (55', 67') as Scotland demolished Albania 4-0 on the road.

Group One Standings:

1. Israel (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 6)
2. Scotland (GP: 3; GD: +5; PTS: 6)
3. Albania (GP: 4; GD: -7; PTS: 3)

NOTE:  Israel had beaten Scotland 2-1 at home on October 11.  The two will face off again on Tuesday with the winner gaining promotion to League B.

Group Four:

At Belgrade, Serbia:

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the winning goal in the 32nd minute as Serbia defeated visiting Montenegro 2-1.

At Ploiesti, Romania:

George Puscas (7'), Claudiu Keseru (47'), and Nicolae Stanciu (65') each scored once as Romania dominated visiting Lithuania 3-0, securing relegation to League D for the guests.

Group Four Standings:

1.    Serbia (GP: 5; GD: +4; PTS: 11)
2.    Romania (GP: 5; GD: +4; PTS: 9)
3.    Montenegro (GP: 5; GD: +2; PTS: 7)
4. z-Lithuania (GP: 5; GD: -10; PTS: 0)

LEAGUE D:

Group Three:

At Baku, Azerbaijan:

Dima Nazarov (18') and Mahir Madatov (26') each scored a goal in the first half-hour as Azerbaijan blanked the visiting Faroe Islands 2-0.

At Ta'Qali, Malta:

Donis Avdijaj scored twice during a two-minute stretch (78', 80') as Kosovo destroyed Malta 5-0 on the road.

2. Azerbaijan (GP: 5; GD: +5; PTS: 9)
