At Ngozi, Burundi:
Tarek Taha scored the only goal of the match in the 56th minute as Ismaily of Egypt took the opening match of their series with Le Messager Ngozi 1-0 on the road.
At Johannesburg, South Africa:
Augustine Mulenga scored the winning goal in the 38th minute as Orlando Pirates, with five players each scoring one, demolished visiting Light Stars (Seychelles) 5-1 in their series-opening contest.
At Nouakchott, Mauritania:
Ahmed Mbaye scored the winning goal in the 89th minute as FC Nouadhibou took their series opener with visiting Al-Ahly Benghazi of Libya 2-1.
At Ebebiyin, Equatorial Guinea:
Jeremy Brockie (12') and Themba Zwane (77') delivered the goals as Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Leones Vegetarianos 2-0 in game one on the road.
At Kasarani, Kenya:
Bernard Ondiek scored the winning goal in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time as Gor Mahia defeated visiting Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi 1-0 in their series opener.
At Yaounde, Cameroon:
Jean Koa's goal carried UMS de Loum to a series-opening 1-0 home victory over Nigeria's Lobi Stars.
At Beira, Mozambique:
Festus Mbewe scored the winning goal in the 80th minute as Zambia's Nkana knocked off UD Songo 2-1 on the road in match one.
At Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania:
John Bocco scored twice (8', PK-33') as Simba dominated visiting Mbabane Swallows 4-1 in the opening match of their two-game series.
At Omdurman, Sudan:
Ahmed Adam (PK-86') and Tag Ibrahim (88') each scored once late in the match as Al-Merrikh defeated visiting Viper of Uganda 2-1 in their series opener.
At Abidjan, Ivory Coast:
Abdoul Tapsoba scored the only goal of ASEC Mimosas' 1-0 series-opening home win over Gabon's AS Magnasport in the sixth minute.
At Kigali, Rwanda:
The opening contest between APR and visiting Club Africain (Tunisia) ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
At Conakry, Guinea:
Dramane Nikiema scored the only goal of the match in the 66th minute as Horoya defeated visiting Barrack Young Controllers of Liberia 1-0 in their series opener.
At Luanda, Angola:
Geraldo scored twice as the 1st of August Club defeated visiting AS Otoho of the Republic of the Congo 4-2 in match one.
At Antananarivo, Madagascar:
Farai Madhanaga's equalizer in the 67th minute lifted FC Platinum to a series-opening 1-1 road deadlock with CNaPS Sport.
Ando Rakotondrazaka converted a penalty kick for the hosts in the 63rd minute.
