At Kitwe, Zambia:
Ronald Kampamba (27') and Kelvin Kampamba (56') each scored once as Nkana opened their series by defeating visiting Simba of Tanzania 2-1.
At Bamako, Mali:
Ahmed Toure scored a critical road goal in the opening minute of second-half stoppage time as ASEC Mimosas knocked off Stade Malien 1-0 on the road in their series-opening match.
