FIVE STRIPES PROVE TOO MUCH FOR TIMBERS IN MLS CUP FINAL FOR ATLANTA'S FIRST SPORTS CROWN SINCE '95 BRAVES

At Atlanta:

Josef Martinez (39') and Franco Escobar (54') each scored once while goalkeeper Brad Guzan came up with three saves to preserve the shutout in his first championship match for club and country as Atlanta United, in front of an MLS Cup Final record 73,019 fans, blanked the visiting Portland Timbers 2-0 to win their first league title in only their second season of existence.

It was the first championship in a major league by an Atlanta club since the Braves won the 1995 World Series.
