CAF Champions League

CAF Champions League group-stage action continued on Saturday with six games as it reached its' midway point.

GROUP A:

At Enugu, Nigeria:

Mohammed Nahiri provided the game's only score by converting a penalty kick in the 20th minute as Wydad Casablanca defeated Lobi Stars 1-0 on the road.

GROUP A STANDINGS:

1. Mamelodi Sundowns (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 6)
2. Wydad Casablanca (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 6)
3. ASEC Mimosas (GP: 3; GD: -4; PTS: 3)
4. Lobi Stars (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 3)

NOTES:  Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Wydad Casablanca 2-1 at home on January 19; ASEC Mimosas defeated visiting Lobi Stars 1-0, also on January 19.



GROUP B:

At Bulawayo, Zimbabwe:

Hamed Assoko's successful penalty kick in the 51st minute provided all the scoring as Horoya defeated FC Platinum 1-0 on the road.

At Johannesburg, South Africa:

Orlando Pirates and visiting Esperance de Tunis battled to a 0-0 stalemate.

Group B Standings:

1. Orlando Pirates (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 5)
2. Esperance de Tunis (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 5)
3. Horoya (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 4)
4. FC Platinum (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 1)



GROUP C:

At Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo:

Kevin Mondeko (11', 39'), Jackson Muleka (37', 61'), and Tresor Mputu Mabi (76', 83') each scored twice as TP Mazembe slaughtered visiting Club Africain 8-0.

Group C Standings:

1. CS Constantine (GP: 2; GD: +4; PTS: 6)
2. TP Mazembe (GP: 2; GD: +5; PTS: 3)
3. Club Africain (GP: 2; GD: -9; PTS: 0)

NOTE:  Ismaily of Egypt were disqualified from the tournament back on January 23 because of boorish "fan" behavior at their January 18 home match against Club Africain.  The results of both of Ismaily's contests were annulled.



GROUP D:

At Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo:

Mohamed Hammia (PK-45') and Sid Ali Yahia Cherif (88') each scored once as JS Saoura overcame a two-goal deficit and gained a 2-2 road draw with AS Vita Club.

Kazadi Kasengu (14') and Jean-Marc Makusu (37') each tallied once for the Congolese club.

At Alexandria, Egypt:

Karim Nedved scored twice (33', 40') as Al-Ahly scored all the goals in the opening half as they destroyed visiting Simba 5-0.

Group D Standings:

1. Al-Ahly (GP: 3; GD: +7; PTS: 7)
2. AS Vita Club (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 4)
3. Simba SC (GP: 3; GD: -7; PTS: 3)
4. JS Saoura (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 2)
