After 120 scoreless minutes, the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference Final went into the penalty kick shootout. Successful penalty kicks from Clint Mathis, Robbie Findley, Kyle Beckerman, Will Johnson, and Ned Grabavoy carried Real Salt Lake to a 5-4 shootout win in seven rounds over the Chicago Fire to advance to next Sunday's MLS Cup final in Seattle against the Los Angeles Galaxy. It will be RSL's first MLS Cup final appearance in their five-year history.
