Diego Lugano scored the only goal of the match at 21 minutes as Uruguay took the opening match of their two-game playoff for a berth in next year's World Cup 1-0 on the road Saturday over Costa Rica. The two teams will play the concluding match Wednesday as Montevideo, Uruguay.
