Benfica Now In Second Place

Here's a rundown of the Saturday, Sunday, and Monday Portuguese BWINLIGA action:

Let's start with the two Saturday contests:

At Pacos de Ferreira:

Elias (18'), Joao Paulo (53'), and Antunes (58') provided the scoring for Pacos Ferreira as the hosts bested Sporting Braga 3-2.

At Lisbon:

Simao Sabrosa (14') and Anderson Luisao (36') provided the first-half tallies as SL Benfica held off Belenenses 2-1 to take over second place in the league standings.

Now a recap of the four Sunday games:

At Porto:

Ricardo Sousa's successful penalty kick (56') lifted Boavista to a 1-1 home draw with Sporting Club Portugal.

At Coimbra:

George Binho scored the lone goal (52') of Vitoria Setubal's 1-0 road win over Academia de Coimbra.

At Vila das Aves:

When you have the league's two bottom teams going at it, it seemed inevitable that visiting Beira Mar and CD Aves battled to a 0-0 stalemate.

At Amadora:

Hosts Estrela Amadora and Naval also battled to a 0-0 draw.

And, in the one Monday match, played at Madeira:

CD Madeira picked up a 3-2 home win over Maritimo. Marcelo Bruno scored the game winner at 69 minutes.
