At Bilbao:
Diego Forlan scored the lone goal of the match (71') as Villarreal picked up a 1-0 road win over Athletic Bilbao. The hosts' Francisco Javier Yeste failed on his 90th-minute penalty kick attempt which would have tied the match.
At Santander:
Ezequiel Garay's successful 90th-minute penalty kick lifted Racing Santander to a 1-0 home triumph over struggling Real Sociedad.
At Huelva:
Two clubs that recently knocked off Real Madrid, Deportivo La Coruna and hosts Recreativo Huelva battled to a 1-1 stalemate.
At Tarragona:
Getafe picked up an easy 3-1 road win at the expense of bottom-feeding Gimnastic de Tarragona. Angel Vivar Dorado (13'), Daniel Guiza (43'), and Francisco Javier Casquero (76') provided the scoring for the Dark Blues.
At Vigo:
Fernando Torres scored twice (13', 21') to help lift visiting Atletico Madrid to a 3-1 road win over Celta Vigo.
At Pamplona:
Roberto Soldado scored twice (17', 59') to help pace Osasuna to a 5-1 home fistbeating of Real Betis.
