Reds Blank Chelsea 2-0


Eight games were played Saturday in the English Premier League:

At Liverpool:

With goals from Dirk Kuyt (4') and Jermaine Pennant (pictured here, 18'; photo from Alex Livesey, Getty Images), Liverpool blanked visiting Chelsea 2-0.

At Newcastle:

Newcastle United, on goals from James Milner (45') and Nolberto Solano (PK-53') came back from a two-goal deficit to gain a 2-2 home draw with West Ham United.

At Birmingham:

Aston Villa picked up their first league win in their last 12 contests, 2-0 at home at the expense of woeful Watford. The Hornets' Gavin Mahon scored an own goal (86'), then Villa's own Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the insurance tally (90').

At Portsmouth:

Amady Faye scored his first goal for Charlton Athletic (79') as his new club stunned his former club (Portsmouth) 1-0 on the road.

At London:

Pascal Chimboda's equalizer (88') lifted Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 road deadlock with fellow London club Fulham.

At Reading:

Reading, thanks to goals from Shane Long (44'), Ulises De la Cruz (50'), and Stephen Hunt (70'), overpowered visiting Sheffield United 3-1.

At Middlesbrough:

Mark Viduka's double (23', 84') was part of an offensive display that saw Middlesbrough blow visiting Bolton away 5-1.

At Manchester:

With Morten Gamst Pedersen scoring twice (44', 62') and Matt Derbyshire contributing a tally of his own (90'), visiting Blackburn whitewashed Manchester City 3-0.
