Nacional and Gremio Advance To Semis Due To Away Goal Rule

Two teams advanced to the semifinal round of the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday by winning their two-match series because of away goals.

At Montevideo, Uruguay:

Despite being held to a 0-0 home stalemate by Palmeiras, Nacional of Uruguay won their two match set on away goals, thanks to their 2-2 road draw in Brazil in game one. Each team ended up with two point overall for the series and deadlocked on goal difference and goals scored. Nacional advanced due to the two goals scored on the road in the opening contest last month.

At Porto Alegre, Brazil:

Despite being held to a 0-0 home deadlock by Caracas FC, Gremio still advanced to the semifinals for the same reason as Nacional. Last month, the two clubs battled to a 1-1 draw in the Venezuelan capital.
