Diego Souza's very late successful penalty kick (90'+11) carried Gremio to a 1-1 home draw with America de Cali.
Walter Kannemann scored an own goal in the 53rd minute for the Colombian club.
At Santiago, Chile:
Fernando Zampedri scored twice (25', 89') as Universidad Catolica knocked off visiting Internacional 2-1 to gain a berth in the Copa Sudamericana's second stage.
Despite the defeat, the Brazilian club still advanced to the Copa Libertadores' knockout stage.
