UEFA Nations League: Spain Knocked Off In Ukraine; Germany And Switzerland Battle To 3-3 Deadlock

 Group-stage play in the UEFA Nations League resumed on Tuesday with seven games.


LEAGUE A:


Group Four:


At Cologne, Germany:


Timo Werner (28'), Kai Havertz (55'), and Serge Gnabry (60') each scored a goal for Germany as the hosts battled visiting Switzerland to a 3-3 draw.


Mario Gavranovic scored twice (5', 57') and Remo Freuler once (26') for the Red Crosses.


At Kiev, Ukraine:


Viktor Tsyhankov scored the only goal of the match in the 76th minute as Ukraine knocked off visiting Spain 1-0. 


Group Four Standings:


1. Spain (GP: 4; GD: +4; PTS: 7)

2. Germany (GP: 4; GD: +1; PTS: 6)

3. Ukraine (GP: 4; GD: -3; PTS: 6)

4. Switzerland (GP: 4; GD: -2; PTS: 2)


NOTE:  Germany defeated Ukraine 2-1 on October 10.




LEAGUE C:


Group One:


At Elbasan, Albania (moved from Azerbaijan due to the ongoing Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia):


Azerbaijan and visiting Cyprus battled to a 0-0 stalemate.


At Podgorica, Montenegro:


Danel Sinani scored the winning goal in the 86th minute as Luxembourg upended Montenegro 2-1 on the road.


Group One Standings:


1. Luxembourg (GP: 4; GD: +3; PTS: 9)

2. Montenegro (GP: 4; GD: +4; PTS: 9)

3. Azerbaijan (GP: 4; GD: -2; PTS: 4)

4. Cyprus (GP: 4; GD: -5; PTS: 1)


NOTE:  Luxembourg scored two road goals in their two games with Montenegro, compared to the Brave Falcons' one against the Red Lions in Luxembourg.




LEAGUE D:


Group One:


At Riga, Latvia:


Steve Borg came through for Malta with his tally at the death (90'+7) as the Falcons defeated hosts Latvia 1-0 for their first road victory since 2013.


At Torshavn, Faroe Islands:


Klaemint Olsen scored twice (9', 33') as the Faroe Islands all assured promotion to League C after their 2-0 victory over Andorra.

1. Faroe Islands (GP: 4; GD: +4; PTS: 10)

2. Malta (GP: 4; GD: 0; PTS: 5)

3. Latvia (GP: 4; GD: -1; PTS: 3)

4. Andorra (GP: 4; GD: -3; PTS: 2)

At Vaduz, Liechtenstein:


Liechtenstein and visiting San Marino battled to a 0-0 deadlock.
