CONCACAF Champions League: America, Tigres, CityZens, Impact Advance To Quarterfinals

The opening round of the CONCACAF Champions League continued on Wednesday with four games.

At Mexico City:

After a second 1-1 draw between Club America and visiting Comunicaciones which squared the series at 2-2 on aggregate (and with overtime dispensed with), Victor Aguilera, Jesus Escoboza, Bruno Valdez, Andres Ibarguen, and Francisco Cordova all converted spot kicks as America won the penalty-kick shootout 5-3 to advance to the quarterfinal round.

At San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico:

Andre-Pierra Gignac scored twice (18', PK-23') as Tigres doubled up visiting Alianza 4-2 in game two and won their series 5-4 on aggregate.

At Harrison, New Jersey:

Alexander Callens scored the only goal of the match in the 41st minute as New York City defeated visiting San Carlos 1-0 in game two and won their series 6-3 on aggregate.

At Montreal:

A 0-0 game-two home stalemate with Deportivo Saprissa was good enough for the Montreal Impact as they won their series with the Costa Rican club on away goals as the aggregate score read 2-2.
