Fire, Goats, Win Playoff Openers

Two more Major League Soccer conference semifinal series opened Sunday:

At Bridgeview, Illinois:
Justin Mapp scored the only goal (35'), lifting the Chicago Fire to a 1-0 win over the New England Revolution in game one of an Eastern Conference two-game, total-goals, semifinal series. The Fire can advance to the Eastern Confernece finals with a win or tie next Saturday night in Foxboro, Massachusetts.

At Carson, California:
Ante Razov (45') and Juan Francisco Palencia (69') scored to lead Chivas USA to a 2-1 Western Conference semifinal series-opening home win over the Houston Dyanamo. The Goats can advance to the Western Conference finals with a win or tie next weekend at Houston. Brian Ching scored the lone Houston goal in the 74th minute, but Chivas goalkeeper Brad Guzan made a huge save on Dwayne De Rosario's penalty kick in the 86th minute to seal the hosts' win.
