UEFA Champions League Playoff Round: Super Mario And The Prince Guide The Rossoneri Into The Group Stage; Bhoys Overturn Game-One Defeat To Advance; Zenit, Viktoria Plzen, Real Sociedad Also Advance

The playoff round for UEFA Champions League group-stage berths concluded on Wednesday with five games.

At Saint Petersburg, Russia:

Danny scored twice (29', 48') as Zenit Saint Petersburg doubled up visiting Pacos de Ferreira 4-2 in game two and took their series 8-3 on aggregate.

At Maribor, Slovenia:

Stanislav Tecl scored the only goal of the match in the third minute as FC Viktoria Plzen defeated NK Maribor 1-0 on the road and won their two-match series 4-1 on aggregate.

At Glasgow, Scotland:

Thanks to goals courtesy of Kris Commons (45'+1), Georgios Samaras (48'), and James Forrest (90'+2), Celtic overturned their 2-0 series-opening defeat with a 3-0 home win over FC Shakhter Karagandy and knocked out the club from Kazakhstan 3-2 on aggregate.

At San Sabastian, Spain:

Carlos Vela scored twice (67', 90'+1) in Real Sociedad's second straight 2-0 win over Lyon, this time at home as they won their series with the French club 4-0 on aggregate to reach the Champions League's group stage for the first time in a decade.

At Milan, Italy:

Kevin-Prince Boateng scored twice (9', 77') and Mario Balotelli added another score in the 55th minute as AC Milan dominated visiting PSV Eindhoven 3-0 in game two and took out the Dutch club 4-1 on aggregate.

The draw for the Champions League's group stage will take place on Thursday in Monaco while the five clubs that were eliminated on Wednesday will play in the group stage of the Europa League.
