UEFA Champions League Qualifying: BATE, Maribor, Standard Liege, Mastiffs Advance To Playoff Round

The final week of the third round of UEFA Champions League qualifying commenced on Tuesday with four games.

At Barysaw, Belarus:

Aliaksandr Volodko (39'), Vitali Rodionov (66'), and Sergey Krivets (90'+4) delivered a goal apiece as FC BATE Borisov overcame their 1-0 road defeat from last week and even overcame a 2-0 aggregate deficit after surrendering an early goal, came roaring back with three unanswered tallies and shocked visiting Debreceni VSC 3-1 at home in game two and won their two-match series 3-2 on aggregate.

At Larnaca, Cyprus:

In a contest played in Cyprus due to the ongoing Israeli-Gaza conflict, Agim Ibraimi scored twice (36', 55') as NK Maribor gained a 2-2 game-two road draw with Maccabi Tel Aviv and won their two-game series 3-2 on aggregate.

At Athens:

Yanis Mbombo (36') and Paul M'Poku (41') each scored a goal as Standard Liege came from behind to upend Panathinaikos 2-1 on the road in game two and oust the Greek club by that same score on aggregate.

At Villeneuve-d'Ascq, France:

Florent Balmont scored in the 19th minute as LOSC Lille Metropole gained a game-two 1-1 home draw with Grasshoppers, good enough for the Mastiffs to win their series with the Swiss club 3-1 on aggregate (DAG NAB IT!)
