CAF Champions League Qualifying

The opening weekend of the CAF Champions League's preliminary round concluded on Sunday.

At Warri, Nigeria:

When Sao Tome and Principe's Sporting Praia Cruz failed to show up for the first match of their two-game series with Warri Wolves, the Nigerian club was awarded the series and a berth in the first round (in which they will face Sudan's Al-Merrikh) by default.

At Casablanca, Morocco:

Reda Hajhouj scored what proved to be the game winner in the 30th minute as Wadad Casablanca blanked visiting AS Douanes Niamey (Niger) 2-0 in their series opener.

At Addis Ababa, Ethiopia:

Adame Girna got the scoring started in the 16th minute as Saint George SC (a.k.a. Kedus Giorgis) dominated visiting St. Michel United from Seychelles 3-0 in match one.

At Maseru, Lesotho:

Vital'O of Burundi knocked off Lioli FC 2-1 in their series opener on the road.

At Ndola, Zambia:

Idriss Mbombo (8') and Clatous Chama (90') produced the goals as ZESCO United blanked visiting A-Ghazal (South Sudan) 2-0 in their series opener.

At Lobamba, Swaziland:

Mbabane Swallows took the opening match of their series with Armee Patriotique Rwandaise (Rwanda) 1-0 at home.

At Moroni, Comoros:

Eric Mathoho scored twice (41', 50') as South Africa's Kaiser Chiefs demolished Volcan Club de Moroni 4-0 on the road in their series opener.

At Idriss, Chad:

ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast) took their series opener with AS CotonTchad 1-0 on the road.

At Bamako, Mali:

Mohamed Al Ghanodi's successful penalty kick in the 65th minute carried Al-Ahli Tripoli (Libya) to a series-opening 2-1 road win over Onze Createurs de Niarela.

At Monrovia, Liberia:

Cameroon's Union Douala downed Nimba United 3-1 on the road in game one of their two-match series.

At Rades, Tunisia:

Bassem Srarfi (50') and Hichem Iffa (75') each delivered a goal as Club Africain blanked visiting AS Tanda (Ivory Coast) 2-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Obuasi, Ghana:

Ashanti Gold SC defeated visiting MO Bejaia 1-0 in their series-opening contest.
