Copa Libertadores Qualifying: Series-Opening Wins For Independiente del Valle, Independiente Santa Fe

The opening week of the preliminary round to determine who will play in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores concluded on Thursday with two games.

At Sangolqui, Ecuador:

Luis Caicedo Medina scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute as Independiente del Valle took game one of their series with Paraguay's Club Guarani 1-0.  The series will conclude next Thursday at Asuncion, Paraguay.  The winner of this series will join Group Five alongside Brazil's Atletico Mineiro, Chile's Colo-Colo, and Peru's FBC Melgar.

At Santa Cruz, Bolivia:

Carlos Ibarguen scored twice (23', 41') as Independiente Santa Fe currently defeated Oriente Petrolero 3-1 on the road in the opening contest of their two-game series.  The series will conclude on Thursday next at Bogota, Colombia.  The winner will play in Group Eight alongside Corinthians (Brazil), Cerro Porteno (Paraguay), and Cobresal (Chile).
