Kawasaki Frontale, Bunyodkor, And Umm-Salal Take Series Openers

The quarterfinal round of the AFC Champions League commenced on Wednesday with three games.

At Tokyo:

Kengo Nakamura (60') and Juninho (63') provided the second-half scoring that enabled Kawasaki Frontale to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit and top visiting Nagoya Grampus 2-1 in game one of the two Japanese clubs' two-match home-and-away series. The visitors still managed to get what may be, in the end, a critical away goal at 28 minutes from Joshua Kennedy.

At Tashkent, Uzbekistan:

FC Bunyodkor, with goals from Victor Karpenko (29') and Server Djeparov (79', 85') overcame an early one-goal deficit and topped visiting Pohang Steelers in the two clubs' series opener.

At Doha, Qatar:

Magno Alves scored twice (55', 85') and Fabio Cesar (84') added one of his own as Umm-Salal erased a two-goal halftime deficit and defeated FC Seoul 3-2 in the opening contest of their two-legged series. Jung Jo-Gook's away double (3', 45')kept the South Korean club in the series.
