Neri Cardozo (9') and Sergio Santana (56') provided the scoring as Monterrey edged visiting Mexican club Cruz Azul 2-1 Wednesday in the opening game of their two-match CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series. Adrian Cortes kept Azul alive in the series with what might still turn out to be a precious away goal at 48 minutes.
