Copa Libertadores: Union Espanola and Godoy Cruz Win; Cerro Porteno Held To Home Draw

Thursday saw group stage play in the Copa Libertadores continue with three games.


Group Four:


At Santiago, Chile:


Martin Liguera (3') Braulio Leal (25') each scored a goal in the first half as Union Espanola held off visiting Velez Sarsfield 2-1.


GROUP FOUR STANDINGS:


1. Caracas FC (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS; 6)
2. Universidad Catolica (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 4)
3. Union Espanola (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 4)
4. Velez Sarsfield (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS; 3)


Group Five:


At Asuncion, Paraguay:


Sergio Herrera's equalizer at 61 minutes gained a 1-1 road draw for Deportivo Tachira in their match with Cerro Porteno (Roberto Nanni scored at 27 minutes for the hosts).


Group Eight:


At Avellaneda, Argentina:


Godoy Cruz de Mendoza took a battle of Argentinian clubs 3-1 on the road at Independiente's expense.  Hernan Fredes (OG-28'), Ariel Rojas (32'), and Ruben Ramirez (56') each registered a tally for the guests.
