Europa League Qualifying: Road Wins For Liverpool, Inter; Home Win For Athletic Bilbao; Dundee United Held To 2-2 Game-One Home Draw

Twenty-nine contests were played on Thursday as the third round of Europa League qualifying commenced.


At Ramenskoye, Russia:


Oleg Shatov (63') and Fyodor Smolov (74') provided the scoring as Anzhi Makhachkala blanked visiting Vitesse Arnhem 2-0 in the opening game of their two-match series.


At Kuopio, Finland:


Sander Puri scored the only game of the match in the 73rd minute as KuPS defeated visiting Bursaspor 1-0 in the opening match of their two-game home-and-away series.


At Kiev, Ukraine:


Ionut Mazilu (6'), Oleksandr Kovpak (61'), and Eric Matoukou (83') each tallied once as Arsenal Kiev dominated visiting ND Mura 05 3-0 in their series opener.


At Tbilisi, Georgia:


Ioannis Okkas scored the only goal of the match in the 69th minute as Anorthosis took game one 1-0 on the road against FC Dila Gori.


At Solna, Sweden:


Martin Lorentzson (60'), Celso Borges (78'), and Viktor Lundberg (86') each delivered a goal in the second half of game one as AIK Solna dominated visiting Lech Posnan 3-0.


At Kalmar, Sweden:


Sebastian Andersson scored the only goal of the match in the 18th minute as Kalmar FF took game one at home against BSC Young Boys 1-0.


At Ried im Innkreis, Austria:


Rene Gartler (52') and Anel Hadzic (PK-62') each scored once as SV Ried held off visiting Legia Warsaw 2-1 in game one.  Danijel Ljuboja kept the visiting Polish club alive in the two-game series with his 85th-minute road goal.


At Chorzow, Poland:


David Stipek (80') and Michal Duris (85') each scored a goal five minutes apart late in the second half as FC Viktoria Plzen blanked Ruch Chorzow 2-0 on the road in match one.


At Nicosia, Cyprus:


With Mario Sergio (34') and Efstathios Aloneftis (80') providing the goals, APOEL FC came from behind to top visiting Aalesund 2-1 in game one.  Tremaine Stewart kept the Norwegian club's hopes of advancing to the playoff round alive with his tally in the 16th minute.


At Tromso, Norway:


Dorde Lazic provided what might still end up as a precious away goal in the 88th minute to carry Metaluhr Donetsk to a 1-1 series-opening road draw with Tromso IL.  Zdenek Ondrasek scored for the hosts in the 43rd minute.


At Ramat Gan, Israel:


Giorgos Georgiadis (62') and Stefanos Athanasiadis (72') each scored a goal after the one-hour mark to carry PAOK FC to a 2-0 road win in game one against Bnei Yehuda.


At Heerenveen, Netherlands:


Filip Duricic scored twice (9', 64') as SC Heerenveen all but punched their tickets for the playoff round following their 4-0 game-one home demolition of Rapid Bucharest.


At Bucharest, Romania:


Martin Mikovic's goal in the sixth minute held up as FC Spartak Trnava topped Steaua Bucharest 1-0 on the road in game one of their two-match series.


At Geneva, Switzerland:


Borek Dockal equalized in the 79th minute to carry Rosenborg to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with Servette FC.  Jerome Schneider scored in the 69th minute for the hosts.


At Enschede, Netherlands:


FC Twente, with Leroy Fer (52') and Macer Chadli (62') providing the goal power, blanked visiting FK Mlada Boleslav 2-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.


At Gomel, Belarus:


Stewart Downing scored the only goal of the match in the 69th minute as Liverpool took the opening match with FC Gomel 1-0 on the road.


At Tripoli, Greece:


Philipe Fidelis dos Santos delivered an equalizer in the 72nd minute to carry CS Maritimo to a series opening 1-1 road draw with Asteras Tripolis FC.  Ruben Rayos scored in the 48th minute for the hosts.


At Genk, Belgium:


Jelle Vossen (PK-18') and Steven Joseph-Monrose (44') provided the scoring as KRC Genk held off visiting FC Aktobe 2-1 in match one.  The visiting club from Kazakhstan stayed alive in the two-contest series, thanks to Pyotr Badlo's tally in the 25th minute.


At Horsens, Denmark:


Ken Fagerberg's stoppage time penalty kick (90'+1) enabled AC Horsens to salvage a series-opening 1-1 draw with Elfsborg.  Lasse Nilsson scored for the visiting Swedish club in the 65th minute.


At Szekesfehervar, Hungary:


Uros Nikolic scored the only goal of the match in the 78th minute as Videoton FC took match one at home 1-0 against KAA Gent.


At Belgrade, Serbia:


The opening match between Red Star Belgrade and visiting Omonia ended in a 0-0 stalemate.


At Eskisehir, Turkey:


Atdhe Nuhiu scored in the 61st minute as Eskisehirspor settled for a 1-1 opening-contest home draw with Marseille.  Andre-Pierre Gignac scored in the 49th minute for the visiting French club.


At Dundee, Scotland:


Igor Semshov (50') and Aleksandr Kokorin (90'+3) each tallied once as Dynamo Moscow gained a series-opening 2-2 road draw with Dundee United.  Willo Flood (37') and Keith Watson (76') each scored a goal for the Tangerines.


At Dublin, Ireland:


With Leon Andreasen (6'), Christian Pander (67'), and Didier Ya Konan (80') each delivering a goal, Hannover 96 all but locked up a playoff-round berth following their 3-0 game-one road domination of St. Patrick's Athletic.


At Split, Croatia:


Wesley Sneijder (18'), Yuto Nagatomo (44'), and Philippe Coutinho (73') each scored once as Inter Milan dominated Hajduk Split 3-0 on the road in their series opener.


At Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina:


Asmir Suljic (17') and Zoran Belosevic (43') each scored a goal as FK Sarajevo held off visiting FK Zeta 2-1 in the opening game of their two-match series.  Balsa Bozovic was no clown as he kept the Montenegrin club alive in the series with his 45th-minute tally.


At Bilbao, Spain:


Ismael Lopez scored twice (16', 68')as Athletic Bilbao got the measure of visiting Slaven Koprivnica 3-1 in the opening contest of their two-match series.


At Novi Sad, Serbia:


Goals from Aboubakar Oumarou (75') and Milan Bolovic (90') carried FK Vojvodina to a 2-1 series-opening win over visiting Rapid Vienna, who stayed alive in the series thanks to Deni Alar's tally at 90 minutes.


At Maria Enzersdorf, Austria:


Goals from Patrick Mevoungou (OG-28') and Leonard Kweuke (58') lifted Sparta Prague to a 2-0 opening-game road win over Admira Wacker Modling.
