MLS: Impact, Hoops, Revs, Rapids, Fire Rack Up Saturday Wins; Timbers And RSL (Who Battle To 0-0 Draw) Clinch Playoff Berths; Crew, Caps Eliminated

Six games were contested in Major League Soccer on Saturday.

At Montreal:

Marco Di Vaio (64') and Karl Quimette (84') delivered the goals as the Montreal Impact came from behind to upend the visiting Philadelphia Union 2-1 to snap their six-match MLS winless streak and place themselves on the cusp of making the playoffs for the first time in their two-year top-flight history.

At Frisco, Texas:

Matt Hedges (65') and Michel (87') each scored a goal as FC Dallas knocked off the visiting Seattle Sounders 2-0, in Schellas Hyndman's final home game as Hoops head coach.  The Sounders' defeat clinched a playoff berth (their first in their three years of MLS play) for the Portland Timbers hours before their Cascadia rivals were set to host Real Salt Lake.

At Commerce City, Colorado:

Gabriel Torres scored twice (PK-41', 77') as the Colorado Rapids helped their playoff chances with a 3-2 home win over the Vancouver Whitecaps, eliminating the newly-crowned Cascadia Cup champions from MLS Cup playoff contention.

At Foxborough, Massachusetts:

Diego Fagundez scored the winning goal in the 76th minute as the New England Revolution kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3-2 win over the visiting Columbus Crew, knocking the guests out of playoff contention.

At Bridgeview, Illinois:

Mike Magee's penalty kick in the 63rd minute provided all the scoring as the Chicago Fire clinged to their top-five Eastern Conference position following their 1-0 home win over Toronto FC.

At Portland, Oregon:

The Portland Timbers, who earlier clinched a playoff berth, thanks to Seattle's fourth straight defeat, battled visiting Real Salt Lake to a 0-0 stalemate, which clinched a sixth consecutive playoff berth for RSL.
