CONCACAF Gold Cup: El Tri Top Martinique To Advance; Scoreless Draw Clinches Group A Title For Panama (Eliminates Canucks)

The final cycle of games in CONCACAF Gold Cup group-stage play began on Sunday with the final two games in Group A, both played at Denver.

In the opener, Panama clinched first place in Group A with their 0-0 stalemate with Canada.  The Canadians were eliminated from the tournament.

In the second match, Marco Fabian (21'), Luis Montes (34'), and Miguel Ponce (90') each scored a goal as Mexico advance to the quarterfinal round with their 3-1 victory over Martinique, who still has a shot at advancing, depending on action in Groups B and C.

FINAL GROUP C STANDINGS:

1. Panama (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 7)
2. Mexico (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 6)
3. Martinique (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 3)
4. Canada (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 1)

Panama and Mexico advanced to the quarterfinal round while Martinique remained alive, depending on outcomes from the two other groups.  Canada was eliminated.
