After a 1-1 draw through regulation and 30 scoreless overtime minutes, Sheanon Williams, Vincent Nogueira, Maurice Edu, and Fernando Aristeauieta all converted their spot kicks as the Philadelphia Union won the penalty-kick shootout, 4-3 on the road over the New York Red Bulls and advanced to the semifinal round.
At Kansas City, Kansas:
Benny Feilhaber (71'), Dom Dwyer (86'), and Krisztian Nemeth (88') each scored a goal as Sporting Kansas City came from behind to upend the visiting Houston Dynamo 3-1.
